What is Wireless Charging?

Wireless charging means A charging a device without using a cable. It will transfer of the power from the main power out the device without a cable. Instead of a cable, It involves the power transfer pad and receiver.


How It Works?

It is basically on inductive charging methods. It will generate power using two coils and create one electromagnetic field.
In the supporting smartphone, a receiving magnetic plate is available. When this place comes into the contact with the electromagnetic field, then the electric power transfers. This is a Direct current (DC), which in turn charges the built-in smartphone battery.

What is QI Standards for Wireless Charging in Smartphone?

QI Standard is a main wireless charging standard that has been developed by the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) for an inductive charging method upto the 30 to 40mm. This standard is adopted by many brands as mentioned earlier in this blog like Samsung, Apple, HTC, LG, Sony, even in Nokia as well.

This QI Standards has multiple power specifications.
  • Lower Power Specification: 5W, 7.5W , 10W, even upto 15W (Device like devices like the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.)
  • Medium Power Specification: This specification can deliver upto 120W and used for display and laptops.
  • High Power Specification: This specification can deliver upto 1KW to power devices such as kitchen gears.

  • Qi wireless charging pads being installed in various places around the world, if you run out of juice and don't have a cable you can still charge your phone.     

Disadvantages:

  • Wireless charging is slower, especially for current Quick Charge technology Smartphone - plugging into a wall outlet will be much, much quicker for those devices.
  • If you've got your phone charging via a cable, you can still hold it and use it as normal. If you take your phone off a wireless charging pad to use it, it stops charging.
  • Not all phones have it.
